Kwame Frimpong is a Professor of law at the University of Botswana and a qualified barrister in Ghana. Professor Kwame Frimpong from the UB's Department of Law is former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and has been Secretary General of The Southern African Universities Social Science Conference (SAUSSC) since January 1996.
 
Paper/Presentation: Strengthening Democratic Institutions through the African Union: Agenda for Stability and Development in Africa.
     
He argues that the democratic institutions in various countries must be strengthened in order to make it more difficult for corruption to thrive. Believing that corruption does not easily thrive when transparency exists in various spheres of government and transactions, he calls for a two-pronged approach: making the judiciary branches independent of the legislature and executive branches in order to fight corruption and maintain obedience to the rule of law, and strengthening democratic institutions.
