Paper/Presentation: The Role of the African Diaspora in the Revitalization Process of Health Systems in Africa
Addressing the state of the healthcare system in Africa, Ako is primarily concerned with the growing lack of health professionals who leave their original countries for western shores, “ The consequence of the migration of healthcare workers en masse from Africa includes: reduction in the already low number of healthcare workers; depletion of intellectual / talent resulting in the reduction in number of dynamic and innovative people; a threat to health services in country; slows transfer of technology and widened gap between African and Industrialized countries; affects the continents output (research and development); increased dependence on foreign technical assistance. “ She seeks solutions to this problem but finds hope for the future in the way that the African Diaspora Healthcare Professionals for Capacity Building in Africa can help.
